This is one of the best accounts of how important water is for every living thing. I’m so glad I had the time, or made the time, to read, really read MOON. WATER. GREEN. Thank you, Alexis, for reminding us not to take the simplest of things for granted. It also makes me want to go AWE spotting. Some of the wonderous moments happen when we are devoted to paying attention.

I saw that big orange moon from my high windows, too. And said, "MOON."

Yes. THIS. A relationship to a watershed is so orienting to a sense of place. Maybe its the great lakes in my blood— but I find it incredibly grounding.

My friend Casper hosts a little singing circle and one of my favorite songs we do runs through all the rivers of the British Isles— its rousing and a delight to sing, but also makes me wonder what if we knew our rivers by names?

"Come sing, let’s sing for the rivers, sing for the rivers of the isle,

Come sing, let’s sing for the rivers, the rivers where we live for awhile,

By the rivers where we live for awhile.

...

The rivers outlive us we come and we go,

The rivers outlive us, the rivers just flow."
