Circumnutation!! Part of why I love my bird's nest fern so much is the regularity with which it pushes up new fronds that unfurl seemingly before my eyes and I went to wikipedia to learn what the process is called: circinate vernation. Omg plants rule and that video you posted is di-vine

Also, how fascinating and ornate is the language of plants? I have mixed feelings about it in pure botanical terms--like, it requires SUCH an upfront investment, but also ... it’s beautiful and specific for a reason

I should give credit to the (sweet, irascible) proprietor of The Dry Garden Nursery on Shattuck in Oakland for that particular coinage. They got a whole sign and everything (I have a picture). It's hilarious.
