I know that a lot of plants can live a really long time but I found it fascinating that this plant out of all plants can live to be 1500-2000 years old. Plus, I could not for the life of me have the patience to sit and stare at a plant for, like, 35 minutes without looking at everything else.

What a fantastic post -- I've been in the cactus house only once, always ending up wandering and enjoying the rest of the garden, forgetting the housed treasures. I'm definitely visiting the Welwitschia next visit!

Totally know how that goes! My normal visit to the Botanical Garden is looking at 500 plants but not really looking at any of them. Then buying one of their lollipops and a few too many plants. There are just so many interesting things that I can’t quite focus my eyes. So that was part of this exercise for me—trying to see the garden in a new way.

If attention is love, then your deep attention to this incredible plant being is a very rich kind of love. Also, I'll be visiting Naugatuck again in September if you need any on the ground research on Jimmy Nardello : ). Did you know that the reason Naugahyde is named Naugahyde is that it was created in Naugatuck at the very same U.S. Rubber Company that Jimmy Nardello worked for?
